Goodbye Central Asia – Hello China!

    Sunday, September 24th, 2006

I’m now back in Osh and my bicycle that I’ve missed immensely during the last 10 days travelling around sublime Kyrgyzstan. Around 3000 kms in minibusses, shared taxis, hitch hiking and trekking. The last bits of preparation (buying socks, biking gloves, thermo underwear, extra patches and the like) in Bishkek and in Osh this morning at the colourful and crowded sunday market.

I’ll leave Osh tomorrow and cycle towards the Chinese border at Irkeshtam. The road to Kashgar, China crosses a few passes around 3700 m and I can hardly wait to be back on the road again. Hope the adrenalin rushing in my veins now will let me sleep tonight. I really need that after a long 14 hour drive last night from Bishkek to Osh in a bumpy marshrutka/minibus with hardly any sleep.

WT updates may be infrequent. No news is good news – stick to that!

    Abracos, Nicolai

Photos from Silk Road Turkmenistan & Uzbekistan

    Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Check out the newly updated photos from Turkmenistan & Uzbekistan here!

Some people have a (bad?) habit of changing the colour of the cover of their mobile phones too often…Being non-mobile on my journey I don’t have that option. Instead I happen to change (adding, deleting i.e.) the content of the different photo albums on this website. Different people, different habits…I excuse for that 😉

    Update from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan…

    Thursday, September 14th, 2006

I´m now in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan not far from the Kazakh border. Arrived last night after a wonderful 11 hours car ride across the country and passing 2 mountain passes over 3000m on the way. It was one of the most beautiful rides I´ve ever had.

I have left the bicycle in Osh and now take some (7-12?) days off travelling around Kyrgyzstan which I´m very excited about. The expedition will continue in Osh where I left it. These days among nomad and ex-Russians i Kyrgyzstan are technically just a break from WT and not exactly a part of it (just for the record). But I´ve heard so much about the country and since I was in the area anyway…

    Capital Tashkent, Uzbekistan

    Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

After 2 mad max cycling days since Samarkand (173 and 174 km respectively), I arrived in Tashkent (Uzbek capital, 2,2 mio inhabitants) yesterday. The legs are – like the rest of the body – fine in spite of the 2 ironman distances in just 32 hours.

The photos in the diary have to wait and they seem to be a challenge here in Uzbekistan where the restrictions of the internet cafes make it hard for the heavy duty photo artillery I’m dealing with.

Wish me luck with the visa stuff for China and Kyrgyzstan tomorrow!
