    Reunification in Saigon!

    Thursday, December 21st, 2006

A short notice here from bustling Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City to tell that life´s still a treat. I arrived here yesterday from Cambodia and met up with my folks (mum, dad, sister) at the colonial Continental Hotel (est. 1888) where we are all indulging ourselves in French colonial era luxuries. It´s very nice to be united with the family again after more than 250 days on the road. The moments of reunification were very happy to all of us.

I cycled from Bangkok 2 weeks ago and went straight to Cambodia which was just as great as people´d told me. The ruin complexes of Angkor are truly amazing, magnificent, mind blowing and…You name it – Angkor´s got it!

Quite impressive as well – but in a very cruel, morbid way – was The Killing Caves of Battambang and The Killing Fields of Phnom Penh that was home to some of the digusting atrocities that sadly put Cambodia on the political world map in the 1970´s. Almost 3 million Cambodians lost their lives during the insane revolution of Khmer Rouge from 1975-1979 under the infamous leader Pol Pot (the crazy fuck, to say the least, that died in 1998).

For now, I´m off for X-mas – at the beach of Mui Ne, that is.

I hope you´re all still doing fine out there – enjoy X-mas if that´s a tradition of your back yard and let the Year of 2007 be just as magnificent, challenging and pleasing as you ever imagined it to be…

    Best of luck – Nicolai

WT leg #1 is done. #2 is waiting!

    Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

The first leg of the WT expedition Copenhagen-Kathmandu is over and I’m now very excited about leaving Nepal and start the next leg, Southeast Asia.

It’s been some wonderful weeks with relaxation in Kathmandu and Pokhara, lovely people – locals and travellers – Himalaya views that I’ll never forget, elephant safari in Chitwan, wicked cycling in Nepal etc. I feel totally revitalised after Tibet and am really looking forward to getting back on the roads again.

Tomorrow morning (Dec 6th.) I fly with Royal Nepal Airlines from Kathmandu to Bangkok and after “One Night In Bangkok” I’ll head for Cambodia and then Ho Chi Ming City/Saigon, Vietnam where my family will pay me a very welcome visit for 2 weeks for X-mas and NYE.

    Day 238 – Top 7 of My Cities…

    Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

TOP 7 over my most visited cities:
    Together with my visit in Kathmandu in 1996, all these days make the Nepalese capital the 7th city on the list of cities I´ve spent most time in. The list goes;

    1. Middelfart (childhood town)
    2. Copenhagen (uni city)
    3. Aarhus (uni city)
    4. Skåstrup (my parent´s summer house on the island of Funen)
    5. Salvador (uni in Brazil)
    6. Haderslev (military service 1996-1997)
    7. Kathmandu (chilling out, sort of)

I whole-heartedly excuse for my pseudo-statistical tendency and the lack of photos the last few days..
