It’s time to leave Ruth and Elvis (showing butt below! Shame on you, Elvis) in Havertown, Pennsylvania.
The shadows (mine) in the roadside get longer and longer as I pedal into the night in western New Jersey, as I pedal towards New York City. The deer are happily frolicking in the fields, with always-alert, triangular ears sticking up towards the bright July sky. It’s a beautiful night.
Near Somerville I set up camp a record-breaking mere 30 meters from Hwy 206. Doesn’t get much closer than that. It’s just 19 degrees C as I find night-rescue in my nylon bobble, the coolest night since the chilly Andean nights at high altitude, and for the first time since Colombia I find the insulating feathers of my sleeping bag comfy.
