Day 1.262 – Visa Run In Ouagadougou (UK)

    Let the visa party begin!

My Burkinabé visa, that I got at the border, is only a one week affair and expires tomorrow, so a renewal is on today’s agenda. Niels takes me through the heavy Ouagadougou morning traffic into the city so that I can get the visa fixed, and so that I can see the Royal Danish Embassy, where Rina works and The Children Fund, where he works himself.

    Ouagadougou downtown.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen and spoken with so many Danes under the same roof, and I even have a little chat with Mogens the ambassador, and another chat with Nina, the director of the Children Fund’s Burkina Faso department.

My heart starts bleeding when I see this map...

It is a great help to me that Niels helps me getting sorted, finding the immigration office (Toyota Landcruiser Prado-style), ‘cos street signs are not something people really care much about here, and my French tongue is – quite unlike Niels’ – still frustratingly absent.

The waiting time in the Spartan immigration office is (I think) greatly reduced by Niels (in a nice shirt) who mentions the Danish Embassy a few times, and soon my passport and visa application – with my color copy-photo, that I’ve been carrying since Denmark, and that the immigration officer was not too pleased with, but nevertheless accepted, since Niels, my savior , did some skilled sweet-talking 🙂 – are submitted to be picked up later in the afternoon…

The Malian Embassy is closed today because of the extended Ramadan holiday.

Lunch time, prepared by housemaid Josephine...

This is my last evening with Niels and Rina in Ouagadougou (granted I get my Malian visa tomorrow), and although my legs are slowly getting impatient, it won’t be easy to leave the capital and the fantastic time I’ve had with them.

Another (the last) great evening with Niels and Rina in Ouaga...

    Lad visumfesten begynde!

Malis ambassade holder lukket i dag pga.

Lunch time, prepared by housemaid Josephine...

Another (the last) great evening with Niels and Rina in Ouaga...

    On this day..
