    Day 386 – Chiang Mai -> Lampang

    Chiang Mai -> Lampang (hotel)
    Distance (km) : 107
    Time on bike : 5h 08m
    Brutto time: 12.00 – 18.00
    Avg : 20.85 km/h
    Total (km) : 15.294
    Max.speed: 71 km/h

    Ouch, my circadian rhythm! I only just fell asleep by sunrise, and therefore
    I’m groggy most of the day. Maybe that is why I feel emotional today. The
    phenomenon of being inside a bubble rules.

    Getting ready to leave wonderful Chiang Mai!

    It’s Monday, the yellow day, the day when the King of Thailand was born over a generation ago, that is why many Thais wear yellow jerseys today. Despite the tiredness of my body Zülle (my cycling alter ego) is on the move again and several times with my fist raised high, in triumph, Yihaa! In the mountains Zülle hits 71 km/h on a nice downhill road (the roads are still of a racetrack quality). Zülle ought to be wearing the yellow jersey today…

    Rain eats road...

    I’m travelling the same way along Highway 11 as when I was on a three-day
    scooter ride to Nan. The scenery is nicer than I remember. The world
    is more beautiful when discovered slowly from a bicycle’s
    saddle.

    I encounter heavy rainfall, but I continue through the large drops for about
    an hour – when you’ve already been soaked you just can’t get more wet.

    I almost manage to get dry during a serving of fried rice w/eggs in
    a modest highway restaurant. But the Clerk of Weather is not finished for
    today. As if by magic the wind changes direction, is has been tailwind until now, and it tortures me during the last 24 km. The rain begins again, and I find myself soaked to the skin one more time. I am really exhausted during the last two hours.

    For a biker the wind and the rain is the ugly twins of the weather gods.

    In Lampang I immediately accept the price of 250 bath (6,30 USD) cited to me
    by the receptionist, even without inspecting the room first. In other words:
    I was very tired! My legs cramp up after the shower, when I’m picking my
    toes. It was most unpleasant.

    On this day..
